Agree with your point.
But also agree we also need diversity in ways other than race/sex/religion.
My leadership “looks” diverse but they literally all have the exact same background. Upper /upper middle class, same education/university , same hobbies, same preference in music, wine etc. Same same same.
The opposite is the case at my agency.
We have a preponderance of women and POC in leadership positions but everyone thinks and talks exactly the same, dissenting views are not welcome.
SMP, I'm happy you poached this subject. You make a valid point that some companies are using DoT as a veil to hide their unwillingness to actually hire diverse candidates. While this is true, and will continue to be, it doesn't take away from how necessary having DoT is. I believe SVP1's comment is on point. "Looking" diverse v truly "being" diverse requires more than one approach. If we allow ourselves to be pacified simply on the looks - which BTW is the premise behind being the "token hire", we'll undoubtedly still have the same problems. Employing both diverse candidates WITH diverse thinking may be part of the answer/solution but it should be noted that this also requires those hires to have the opportunity and power to lead, and participate, in the decisions.
“I’m not saying two people from the same race can’t have different views but…”
Go ahead don't stop with my half thought, finish it because then you will have the full picture and point of the post. 😉
