Yes, you negotiate your salary as you would for external role but this is if you're applying to a different role in the company (not when getting promoted in your current team).
I’m transitioning internally too. I think knowing the range helps. I think it should still be some type of basis internally vs externally doesn’t change work duties.
It is a similar process, although I think easier when internal. I can talk about what I’ve accomplished and give examples that should be easy to understand.
You’ll likely lateral comp wise unless it’s a title/level promotion. I would temper expectations for any increase
You should negotiate however there are probably stricter rules and maybe more transparency too (like viability of pay bands)
I feel like internal is harder to negotiate with lower margins
