I would love to see any suggestions. Because this describes my work life to a tee. And everything I try getting ahead of something another thing goes wrong so it ends up not doing any good.
Honestly, no, at least not the idea of having an extra week. More time usually equals more fires. Maybe the key is creating a daily timeline that includes a buffer zone for the fires. If there are no fires that day, then utilize that bonus time to get ahead?
I clicked this to see if anyone had any suggestions because I’m in the same cycle with my team
I do feel like that. Every day, I have a plan as to how my day should go with managing and estimating. I understand that it doesn’t always go the way we plan it, but upper management is consistently having me put out fires and bidding every bid invite that comes thru the door. Instead of focusing on the current relationships we have and going after the work that we more likely will get. It is a vicious cycle. The owner is sending me stuff every day which completely derails the current projects we have and bidding projects that I need to focus on. Every day, I think it’s gonna get better and the same thing keeps happening and over and over again.
Yup, it’s almost like the great leadership minds of business don’t have anything under control and aren’t actually good leading or managing.
As someone that was a store manager at one time. I think it is more corporate. They keep piling more and more on them and something has to give. Once above store manager they tend to forget what it is like.
It starts at the top. When the people at the top don't understand the role or department things are always harder
This common accross all areas within IT and other departments / areas. We’re all spread thin wearing many hats. Even if you had a week to catch up, within a short period after you’ll be in the same spot. It’s unfortunate but the sad truth.
