Do you have coworkers with similar interests and/or views to you in the office or the hospital where you work? I have been finding that the majority of the outspoken and friendly people in my department have interests I can't relate to right now. I'm trying to eat healthy, get in shape, spend less money. And I feel like talking about that is almost taboo, and people encourage each other to treat themselves, and gush over fads in beauty and style. Anyone like me out there? 😅

A lot of my coworkers are wonderful people, but not people I have anything in common with. I have found myself becoming less and less social rather than trying to force a conversation 😂 I'm very happily childfree and most of my coworkers spend 90% of their time talking to each other about their kids. I just can't relate at all.

I mean, AFAIK, we have work in common. I'm the only sports fan it seems; one guy is a heavy Star Wars fan. Otherwise, I don't know and don't necessarily care to know.

like

You don't have to have a lot in common with people you work with. You only get a limited amount of time to socialize anyway. Save your thoughts and interests for time you spend with your outside friends and family, the ones who DO share your interests. I worked for 35 years with people (bosses included) who were self-centered, shallow, brand-name wearing money-worshippers. As a single mother of two, I secretly got excited over corn flakes going on sale somewhere!! I did my work, took my paychecks home, and spent time with like-minded folk.

I'm in the same boat, really. A lot of things I find interesting my coworkers just don't care about. I like to talk about what I've been reading, they go on about reality shows I've never seen. And I hear you about wanting to spend less money. I'm surrounded by people who are utterly profligate, spending money on insane stuff. And then two minutes later they're griping they're broke and blaming it on inflation.

Yea but if you need any assistance do they help

I had a teammate when I worked in the schools, a psychologist- we seemed to be very much like-minded in terms of our work together; evaluations, treatment plans, crisis work, etc. . We became very close friends but that’s the only one. I realize how fortunate I am.

I’m not asking to be there friends
But the non existent help is RIDICULOUS. TODAY 2x. 45 mins.
And 35. Mins. I’m just like thatsnit

Thankfully I have several colleauges that I get along with really well and we all have similar interests. The last place I worked I worked with a lot of older people that were really hard to relate to so I totally understand how you are feeling OP.

I find if there’s an age gap there‘s differences in interests I‘d welcome discussions of healthy habits and lifestyle with co-workers vs a word saturated with political topics that seem unavoidable.
It’s hard (for me) when spending more time with co-workers than family (at times) to not have anything in common.

Same here. Go.ahead and politely listen and then go.back to work. You don't need to share yourself if you don't want to. I always remain very vague about my personal life and limit my social media exposure. I especially stay out of religious and political discussions. THERE IS NEVER A CORRECT ANSWER TO THESE QUESTIONS! I haven't decided yet, I spend time with family mostly. Oh, just doing chores at home. Are my usual answers.

Exactly got into with this young girl none residents even like her literally
But needless I’m to blame

I’ve been working with a founder/small biz freelancing as their digital producer for a little bit. I’m having issues lately because they won’t give me a budget for content they want to make for their site/Instagram. I’m worried with the budget gate keeping that we’re going to burn bridges with contacts, especially now that we’re dipping into my personal contacts for content collaboration. Is this normal? How do I get them to give me a budget to work from?

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)

We had evaluations and normally we have annual raises. I think my salary is under market value at $68k (plus OT) in Los Angeles (5 years of experience). I was told I am one of the top employees in the firm. When I asked about a raise, I was told “when you think about it at your level 5k to 10k doesn’t really matter it’s the long term goal that matters”. What would be your response to that, to a partner who is making 500-600k a year?

I have not been brought up religious but I am beginning to think, I’d like to have faith in something. Doesn’t need to be dogmatic, but having a foundational belief in good things to come is probably essential and for someone like me who needs to work so hard to be happy, I wonder if being a part of a spiritual group can help. Does anyone have recommendations for what I can look into? I get there are many churches but has something helped you guys?

The position is remote & I’d like $20/hr. I’ve invested in myself as a coach & plan to complete board certification by early 2023
