PwC 🐠, I interviewed with the firm about 6 months ago for a Senior Associate position on the forensics team. I wasn’t extended an offer because the position was given to an internal transfer, at least what I was told. I tried reaching out to the recruiter I worked with last time but the email bounced back and wouldn’t be delivered. I was hoping to see / reapply if the group still was looking for seniors.
In your opinion, would it be best to reapply as a cold application?

Wear it, you can’t be overdressed. Better to err on the side of caution
That was my approach. I had interviewers joke that someone probably should've warned me I didn't need to suit up since they were dressed super casually, but I don't think it was a knock against me at all. I think people get that the norms in this new remote setting are very much unclear
Went with the suit, got second interview with the hiring partner!
😁
Jacket, tie and boxer shorts. 😉
I’ve worn a suit for all zoom law firm interviews. They’d expect me to wear one in person - so I don’t feel like zoom should be different. (Plus, wearing a suit puts me in interview mode) The person interviewing me has always been less dressed up - but at different levels. Most were in business casual, one had just returned from a run & was still in work-out wear.
I had a Zoom interview in November. I wore a jacket and leggings that matched well enough that no one could tell they aren’t suit pants in the event I stood up 😊 everyone else was dressed super casually but whatevs. I’d rather be over-dressed than under-dressed. And I got the job!
Agree with A1. If you get uncomfortable you can always take the suit coat off. I think during my zoom interview (Southeast) it was me in a 3/4 sleeved dress and the interviewer was in a button up.
I interviewed someone who was wearing a full suit/tie. Felt a bit awkward frankly considering our firm culture - do you know the culture of the firm? I would consider a suit jacket, no tie perhaps. Everyone recognizes the reality of zoom, sometimes a full suit and tie just feels a bit over the top.
I agree it feels like overkill. I only have the firm’s website bio photos to go by where everyone is suited up. I usually err on side of caution because I’d hate to lose an offer over something that dumb. However, I feel like hr could defuse the situation by clarifying in any scheduling emails!
It’s better than the alternative of not wearing one when you should have.
Rising Star
Be overdressed. An interview is still an interview. When we were in-office, my office had a dressed down style (business casual or even nice jeans)... but we still expected interviewees to be in a suit. That hasn’t changed just because interviews are by zoom now.
I just conducted a bunch of zoom interviews and told each candidate they did NOT need to wear a suit or formal interview attire. If this isn’t communicated to you, then I think you got to wear a suit.
I’m a casual person myself and don’t like wearing suits, but wear one for your zoom interview.
Jacket no tie
