Decent DC startup scene, but I think hard to break into from consulting. Decent local major companies in finance, hospitality, healthcare, some tech. A lot of defense related cos. Unless you’re in SF or NY, it’s probably actually a bit better than other similar sized cities. The culture is just more homogenous (e.g. what do you do? I work for a consultancy, law firm, lobbying, govt contractor, non-profit, govt agency) is 99.99%.
Feel exactly the same way. I love the area and have a condo here, but the non-federal exit opportunities are very limited. It's been a dilemma for me for awhile.
Yeah I’m switching from Federal to commercial (because fuck Federal) and I’m moving to NYC
Leave DC. It’s all government bureaucrats. Don’t settle.
There are some interesting mid sized companies in the area. Total Wine, Sirius XM.
Several major cloud / tech players including Google and AWS.
Cap1 is def one the better, more obvious places.
The GSE’s used to be pretty decent places to work, but not so much these days unless you are very senior.
Total wine pays shit according to a friend that works there

Leave dc if you are trying to get out of public work. There is no private sector work in dc. I’m trying to do the same but am suffocated. It’s full of ugly people, inside and out.
M1 and EY1, what’s your burner? Wanted to exchange stories.
Moved into a tech services firm. Hiring now for internal strategy and senior IC/junior manager is exactly the tenure we are looking for. Drop a burner and I can send you a job description.

OP are you C2 or PL1?
I am an A2!

Im thinking about exiting into non-profit (Diabetes Association or similar). Realized this is where my heart is. Good idea?
In the same boat. If anyone's aware of startup healthcare or health tech firms in DC, drop me your burner here
I think it's less if there's a startup and more if there is a startup I'd like to join... would you really jump so easily? I'd be very selective about joining a startup... v high risk, low chance of success, high opp cost
D1, what’s your burner?
