I abide by the following: casual attire but not casual attitude. As long as your clothes are clean, your pants aren’t too tight and you don’t show too much skin, you’re okay. And no one wants to see your toes.
Jeans are fine. Hoodies is pushing it
The overall effect is one of an office that is not being run in a professional manner. You don’t have to wear a suit. Just dress like you’re coming to an office.
I agree, I always make sure I dress in a way that reflects my abilities and attitude toward work. If I dress sloppy, then I might be perceived as sloppy in my quality. So, I choose to dress in a way where I look put together to convey my work is under control and that I hold myself to a high standard.
Not everyone will get that, but fashion and clothes have always affected me in that way. All you can do is try to lead my example for your coworkers at the end of the day.
I was never able to articulate this, but you hit the nail on the head. It’s very difficult for me to take someone seriously and respect their position and authority when they look too casual and sloppy.
It’s seems like this should be obvious. How we present ourselves to the world is how they see us.
I don’t think jeans are unreasonable as long as they’re not ripped but a hoodie is crossing the line.
I also wear sneakers sometimes. But my outfit all together is still suitable for an office.
I feel it reflects badly on the support team when some of us look too casual to the point of sloppy. It creates an atmosphere of the office not being run in a professional manner, in general.
What office are you in? I’ve heard some offices are more relaxed. I’ve heard of PAMs even wearing shorts in the WC. So I think it varies by office.
I’ve never been to the WC offices so I can’t speak to that. But I’ve seen people in shorts that still look put together for an office. It’s an overall appearance thing.
I agree some people are really pushing the boundaries when it comes to office appropriate attire, but it’s not usually support services people so I feel like that’s unfair. People on the business side are the worst offenders imo.
Not in my office. The PAMs all look office - appropriate. Some of the support staff dress like they’re cleaning out their attics. I find it demoralizing.
If compensation were higher I could supply myself with more suitable attire
I’m happy to help!
