Maybe it’s just me, but I like the balance of non-intellectual topics that my friends and I like to talk about.
I love my friends from college that I can be an idiot around. I also love my family friends and colleagues that challenge me intellectually. The balance of both is necessary
Sounds like your friends need new friends
I feel the same when I am around my B4 acquaintances who were my friends before the tragedy (B4).

I’m with you OP.. I’ve started to diversify my friend group because I don’t have as much in common with my old drinking buddies from school
I would have expected this comment from Deloitte.
So don’t grandfather in people you don’t have anything in common with just so you can call them “friends."
Constantly feel this. Feels even more amplified as a mom when said friends only want to talk about banal kid stuff. It’s sooo hard to make friends as an adult outside of work and of course the easiest way is through your kids. But it’s a vicious, circular reference (get it?) b/c friends through kids tend to talk about....you guessed it...their kids. Mind-numbing
I had that problem several years ago when I was graduating college. I had 3 friends that constantly pushed me to be better. I also had a lot of others that were your classic hometown guys that went to the same bar with the same people every weekend. I outgrew them, but stuck with those that challenged me, and we’ve grown together.
I have yet felt bad or had regret Hope that helps!
My husband and I have THE MOST intellectually stimulating conversations. It’s probably one of the things I love most about our relationship - and there are a lot of things to love. Having that element in our relationship makes me grateful for the different contributions I get from my friends. It’s balance
Things feel more intellectually stimulating when you smoke weed...I’ve heard.
Upgrade your friends.
🤦♀️
Sort of but then I have friends who are the complete opposite and super intellectual that talk non-stop about the world’s economies...and the role of China support from specific states...Venezuela...and so on and so on. That can also get boring and banal.
Having well rounded friends, that’s the fucking sweet spot. But you’re not gonna get everything in one group of friends. That’s a pipe dream.
Yes completely agree with this. Surrounding yourself with well rounded people is key
You have to diversify your friend groups- some are basically family, some you can be immature around - keep you grounded, some are intellectually stimulating, some are power brokers - prestigious-image setting .... you can’t expect everyone to be all things
A good challenge is to hold up those same conversations after a bottle of whisky. Now that is a fun challenge
Not every friend will meet all your needs — make another friend who can fulfill that intellectual desire, then
The same holds true for a spouse. No one person can fulfill all of your needs.
Sounds like you need to look inwards and get off that high horse.
I feel this all the time OP. My friends took the grad school route and I went to the work force. Our priorities and lives don't mesh well anymore.
Not sure that’s what friends are for
I love my stimulating work conversations about current events, politics, religion, and everything else. It’s great talking to superiors about controversial things and having no fear of not getting promoted.....they’re just the best.
These conversations don’t actually happen so I’d say your friends are probably better off without your conversational skills.
