I have an idea for an investment-type thing but am trying to figure out what price point would be attractive to your “everyday” affluent but not 1%er family (I’m talking the 3%ers like myself). If you fit that demographic and were offered a solid investment opportunity with a guaranteed annual yield of 8% and an appreciation of the underlying asset of at 3%, how much would you be willing to invest in it without stressing too much? 10k? 25k? To be clear, not seeking investors here.

Cash is also an investment position.

Could anyone recommend a set of indices that are publicly available and is a good predictor for consumer spend in home renovations ?

After being mugged and having my things (including my keys) stolen, I was locked out of my townhome after business hours on a weekend. I was told on the phone when dialing my complex’s after hours number (which is managed by a 3rd party company) that my complex’s policy would let me in for a cost of $100 (as it was after hours). In process of buying a house, both my surveyor and specialist damp contractor found damp under kitchen tiles (In the grout) & in skirting boards and up one wall. Sellers had work done initially in 2014 on the wall only(with garuntee) & their company has visited and assured there is no damp… what is next best course of action, get another damp specialist to examine independently of other reports? I don’t trust them….. (U.K. Victorian terrace, damp is in the kitchen extension built circa. 15 y/o)

We are renovating a condo and the previous owner had two Crane toilets (not sure how old, but functioning although seals are old according to our contractor). Back outlet flour mount ones are the only options for the building, and one toilet can cost $300-$500.

We are redoing all the bathroom tiles and walls and debating what we should do with the two toilets. Would resealing the toilets extend the use life? Or should we just replace the toilets? Any other recommendations? TIA!!

I saw this townhouse in a prime location in my city for $350k (cheap for the area). The floors are all messed up though but the buyer said they’ll either lower the house price or give a credit for closing cost. There’s also a lot of nicks here and there (some locks missing from door, dents, scratches, stains, and some things are loose). But overall, the house’s architecture and design is so beautiful. Would it be worth it to get it and fix it up? Or find a newer house with less maintenance?
