Why wouldn’t you just apply for an income producing entry level accounting job? Entry level requirements, and at a small firm shouldn’t be so bad you can’t land one. Respectfully, even interns get paid well in accounting. Try a recruiting company for opportunities. They might be able to help you get your foot in the door at an entry level.
I have been applying to entry level positions at small companies but I just keep getting denied. But I will try reaching out to recruiting companies.
you could probably find a local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program near you if you’re interested in tax.
I can recall that when I was in college I participated in (VITA). Unfortunately, I was never a paid tax preparer but always enjoyed preparing taxes.
What you are looking for is called an internship.
I am in the Bay Area, what exactly makes you think you don’t qualify for an internship? These are to be used as stepping stones to obtain a job. And if you don’t want an internship then you can also just apply for a starting associate position within accounting - they’re not expecting you to have work experience.
Unfortunately, you’re not gonna gain meaningful real world experience from volunteering
Volunteering will give you "some" experience which is better than no experience. It also looks good on a resume.
KPMG 1, I do not qualify for an internship because I received my bachelors degree in Accounting in December 2021. To apply for an internship you must be a recent graduate. I believe, interning great opportunity and a great way to network. And to apply for an associate its so competitive and unlikely.
Well after graduating I took a break because of my mental health but then I have been volunteering, worked at an after school program for a couple of months, taking LinkedIn courses. But I know that my resume is a red flag because of the long term gap.
I recommend reaching out to non profits to see if they need pro bono bookkeeping support!
Okay, I think think that was an option. I will look into that, and I will just have to brush up on nonprofit accounting principles.
I do virtual volunteer work through VolunteerMatch.org. I've seen request for accountants, bookkeepers, etc. If you are interested in doing tax preparation, Campaign For Working Families https://volunteer.cwfphilly.org/
offers tax preparation now through VITA. I am active with them and found them through Volunteer Match. Local VITA organizations will be gearing up in November.
Thank you!
