Why would you ever want to go back? But also no…at least in my experience. The law firm I used to work at had multiple partners that came from an in house position.
Very few attorneys do this (like AA1 said , why would you?), but no, it would not hurt your chances. However, you should understand that any new firm is going to want you to bring in business from your old position. If you are smart, you select a firm that lets you keep the client as your own book. Many firms will try to make you “work with a partner”.
Focus on the opportunity that is available to you! Don’t worry about what you may or may not have and go for it!
Depends if you can carry your relationships back to firm life in the form of a client(s) and reliable work flow from the client(s).
Otherwise, what do you bring to the table by coming back into the law firm fold?
I imagine they would return as an associate, not a client. Associates bring plenty to the table without a book of business. That’s why firms keep hiring them.
