Nah
It's still a streaming juggernaut with strong investments and business fundamentals. No reason a 10% drop in stock results in exclusion from FAANG. All of them have gone down more at some points.
I’m not implying it’s just not a strong stock. But they do only have strong exposure to one sector (media) and poor results for their streaming platform had such a large impact on share price.
When was the last time we have seen such a sharp drop with amazon, google, Apple (or even MS)? They have survived multiple market cycles and have diversified offerings as well as significantly higher market caps
A conservative play on streaming is AT&T, Verizon, or Comcast. You’ll always need pipes to stream the data through, whereas the content provider could well evolve
Always needing something doesn’t always equate to where the profit is. I’m not sure I’d even say the players couldn’t change on the pipes, if Google fiber or some other player decided to make it a real competition instead of the semi-monopoly we have now. Maybe even next gen wireless could disrupt the market.
I think there’s a reason places have been snapping up content providers. Owning the content (if done well of course) seems to be where the real money is.
