Title inflation. I work in Montreal and I feel like they hand out VP titles like candy on Halloween.
CGI VP = Senior Manager at most consulting firms
There are no managers so many directors function as managers instead of directors and it flows up the same way. That said it depends on the BU and the the direct hierarchy chain you are part of. Some have Sr. Consultants as a managers and then directors can be directors and VPs can be VPs
Director = Manager
VP = Senior Manager
It’s not inflated. There are some entry level VPs who are promoted and new to the role.
But many VPs across the board are experts either in business development or in some technical areas like AWS, Azure, AI..
One might be handed over the VP role early but they can’t survive long in that role if they are not one of the above.
I hope it gives you some perspective.
The org is flat so there is usually overlap, but the high end roles at other firms usually eclipse CGI comp.
Director = Manger/low end Senior Manger
VP = Senior Manager
SVP = low end MD…or higher end SM
VP is key because you get LTI (equity grants).
The SPP doesn’t change (3.5%) but you get a separate annual equity grant (LTI)- the performance numbers on the year (1-year after grant) trigger how much you get from the grant (and then there is an additional 3-years to fully vest).
