Are online Masters degrees any good? Do they carry any weight relative to conventional Masters from Ivy plus? So something along the lines of Harvard Extension school (Psychology degree), or Columbia Master of Social work…

Yeah currently doing the online Master in Analytics at Georgia Tech and I think it’s totally worth it. Especially for 12k for the entire program.

Depends, online master of public health from Johns Hopkins is helpful for a public health practitioner (because it’s respected in the field), maybe ask Psychologists or Social workers at jobs you want to work if those degree programs are respected when hiring, or if any top 50 school will do. If you’re just trying to get a random degree with “Columbia” on it in an unrelated field, it won’t work, and you will waste time and money for nothing.

I’m not convinced that traditional masters degrees are worth anything, let alone online.

In my experience, no, not really. I haven’t ever seen a Masters degree (including full time MBAs from top schools) serve as a reliable indicator of domain knowledge, skill set, or leadership qualities, so it’s not something that I really consider.

This isn’t a particularly unusual view in my line of work (data center infrastructure).

The Power MBA (?) is a decent course to check out, it’s like $1000?

There is the applied knowledge you obtain verses the check the box masters degree for hiring and promotions. I have worked with HR for decades on hiring and always see a masters degree filter/comp range bumper for it. Never saw one for filtering Harvard Masters verses any online accredited college. So for that reason, would go economic. But for the knowledge and extra skills/tools -choose for the best outcome for you.

What was your experience with the LSAT? Do you think it's gatekeeping, preventing students who can't afford it (often people of color) from entering the field? OR is it helping future attorney's of color by giving them a chance to go to a top school regardless of grades? I've seen questions about the LSAT all day and just want to know how people feel.

Posted about this a while back but didn’t get a definitive response. I have a bunch of Manhattan prep GMAT books from the past few years that have little to no writing in them. There’s probably 20 of them so pretty heavy but I’m looking to give this away to someone for free. Only thing is I asked for you to take all of them versus just a few. I live in downtown Manhattan near the stock exchange and hoping to give by the 24th. Thanks!
