It’s a difficult thing, but I try to have a consistent activity after work. For example, if you go to the gym, play video games, or play a sport consistently at 6pm then you have something splitting work from the rest of your day. I think of it as using what used to be my commute time to consistently do something I like.
Pro tip: I dress up for remote work and change back after work. It creates a clear mental and physical divide for me between work and personal life.
Pimp life is hard
Same here… work hours continue into evenings.
We use the room for two purposes - it’s both my office and our TV room. But I never sit at my desk when we’re relaxing. I turn it all off.
Go out for a walk, go get take out during lunch, go to the gym.
Just close your laptop and turn on tv or game.
I’d drive to the gym right after 5 pm. That helps a lot with separating work time and personal time
Oh, do shut UP, Portia!
I end my day with taking the dog for a walk. It’s good for both of us, mentally and physically, as it allows me to reset my headspace.
I love working from home. The drive to work is long, stressful, and expensive. The underground parking lot at work is dirty, dark and smells of mold. It noisy at my desk and its hard to concentrate. The chair is cheep and uncomfortable. I have two monitors that are not the same size and way smaller than mine at home. The lunch choices are terrible. I’m glad to get home at the end of the day, but I have dress clothes than have to be washed.
I garden and play with dog after work and listen to music.
I either go for a walk or do something that gives me a mental break before I start something else
Have pretend commute time. Give yourself more time to warm up and cool down. I recommend a good pumped up playlist for the day and a chill one for evening. Apple Music has some great ones.
I am able to mentally separate at the end of each day by having a laptop for work and a laptop for personal use. When the work day is over, I close my work laptop and don't use it the rest of the night. If I'm doing anything on the computer the rest of the night, it's on my personal laptop. It's a small thing and kind of stupid, but it allows me to "leave work at work" every day.
Go for a run, or hit the gym and let that be a virtual commute. I do that, or play some rounds of a competitive video game. Then go downstairs and see family — otherwise I’m too deep in work mode and thinking about everything that needs to be done, or planned.
Agreed, I feel like work never ends wfh.
nflx & chill brah
I usually schedule something to do that will take me out of the house. Supermarket, 20-minute walk and so on. If I can't do that for some reason then I will do a home activity like put laundry, cooking, etc. In general, I do some type of activity and definitely do a hard shut off the laptop, in the same way, I would need to do when I leave work to commute.
Dropping off the kids at school then coming home to work gives me the best if both there :) I miss going out to lunch with coworkers the most.
Strong believer in that after work walk followed with dinner and a show and then get ready for bed/play video games or work on my other hobbies. But that after work walk always helps. Even if it’s way too cold or way too hot (love living in Wisconsin) I wind an active activity for after work to make that clear divide.
