I only put things on my resume if I have personally willed the atoms they are made of into existence out of the vacuum energy and driven them into proper configuration. And then personally set them on a deterministic path that leads inextricably to shareholder value.
But I’m very modest, so that’s just me.
This is what I was thinking as well, hence the question. Well said lol
How do you think partners and senior managers meet their metrics?
Don't people say Bill Bellichick took his team to 9 superbowls and won 6 championships?
He sure as hell didn't chuck the football or take hits last I checked.
Consulting is no different. There are coaches, assistant coaches, players and ball boys/locker room assistants/equipment mgrs. Winning a championship requires contributions from each and everyone and each person deserves credit for what they did
When you take credit, just make sure you weren't a ball boy taking credit for a 4th quarter comeback.
I'd say that's fair game
Be specific in your role / contribution. If you led the team, say you led the team in doing _____. Don’t say you did things you didn’t actually do. Talk about how you, as leader, enabled success. The details of the deliverables are only context.
Bill B literally won superbowls. He didn’t set touchdown or passing records.
I wouldn’t worry about the numbers. I would worry about showing what you focused on and how you helped drive the result, what you learned in the process, what tough problems you had to address, what you did differently next time, etc. No one is going to check your numbers because no one cares about the numbers. How could anyone compare across candidates in wildly different situations?
I only look at the numbers on resumes to understand the scale of the problem you worked on. How could I know if 10% savings was good, or if you should have gotten 30%? I care much more about what you’ve focused your time on and what I think you could be a good fit for in the future. I’m not saying to take the numbers out, but focus on your contribution to the team, whatever it was.
Your mileage may vary :)
Yup.
