Toronto ad fish 🤠 I’ve spent most of my career working as a copywriter in London (6 years here, 2 years Toronto) and the market is pretty different here. I’m planning on moving back home but wondered….how do you find work in Toronto? Agencies barely post openings, is the recruiter scene strong? Is it mostly who you know?

There are typically ranges recruiters know of. However rule of thumb is if you give a number first, you lose.
Not if you aren't holding all the cards. If they say the number first, one if it's drastically lower than you want, it's telling, two if they say a number that's interesting, negotiate up and see what you can work with. They normally don't shoot too far under.
Partner.
Partner / hiring manager. HR is just middleman.
Depends on the firm. If it's a firm with a cohort model, the partner generally has no say. If it's not a cohort model, then usually the recruiter has a standard range and the partner can go above it at their discretion.
