I started going to therapy, which has been really helpful. I also try to take some time for myself every day to relax and do something I enjoy. This could be anything from reading, going for a walk, or watching a movie. Taking a step back every day and doing something for myself has helped me manage my anxiety better.
I am an oil and gas engineer, I decided to resign from my position due to low pay since then the job market in this field has become difficult, I have not been able to get a job in this position for 2 years, so I anxiety, of course. My best strategy to deal with this has been to keep learning, I am finishing a specialization as a project engineer and starting a course to specialize in Python.
I am absolutely sure that one of the things that generate more anxiety as engineers is not having a job, and I am also sure that the second thing that generates more anxiety is having to learn new things to do things differently from what is our career. But if this is your thinking, I tell you that you are an engineer and your main goal should be to optimize and come up with new ideas to improve processes, so don't just learn something new, you also have the ability to improve, you are an engineer.
Hey, I suffered from depression when I got my degree, for 5 years I only studied to be an engineer and when I went out to the labor field it was very difficult to get a job, this caused me a lot of anxiety and I became depressed, but I made it, and if I could you could too.
Hello, what you are suffering is a common case, we are trained to solve problems and if we can't do it, of course, it creates anxiety. Not being able to do what we like generates disgust with everything, I recommend you to visit a therapist if this is your case because the silent attitude that you have of denial does not allow you to move forward in your life.
I have not had to make any changes to work specifically, but I have had to make a lot of changes in my personal life to help cope with my anxiety. I have had to learn how to say no more often and set better boundaries for myself. I've also had to learn how to manage my time better and how to better deal with stressors outside of work. Those changes have helped me be a happier and more productive person overall, which has then helped me be a better engineer.
I think everyone feels anxiety in their day to day lives. The most important advice I have is to be upfront about interpersonal conflicts; that's where a lot of anxiety tends to show (at least in my life), I catch myself being all snappy and sharp to coworkers and I really don't want to behave that way. So I apologize and ask if we can restart the conversation. It lets the other person know that I value them and want to show respect.
I'm new here (only worked at this corp. for 6 months, almost) so I'm still learning, and that can be really a lot of stress. I carry a notebook with me everywhere I go; then every time I have a question that pops up, I scribble it down so that I will remember to ask what I need to do about it. I read through everything once a week or so. That's the only way to learn: repetition.
Maybe it's silly? I have little desk toys that make me happy. A zen garden with a tiny rake, one of those drinking bird things, a magnetic sculpture. Having something to play with reminds me of being a kid and that really contributes to keeping me in my comfort zone
