That can get exasperating. It's one of those deals where you have to act like a jerk and talk up what you've done because if you don't a colleague will be a total jerk and take credit for it. If you do get a little aggressive and let it be known who did the heavy lifting, the person who tried to steal credit may back down. Sometimes it's almost like they're just trying to see what they can get away with.
Put everything you helped that person or rep with in email. For instance: " Glad I could help the other day with that revised proposal I provided for "x" customer. Did it help move the deal along?"
That can be tricky. I think it’s helpful to explain to your manager all of the things you did to grow/close a specific opportunity so that at least they know and can recognize you for your efforts. That way you’re not talking negatively about the salesperson and are just proud of your own contribution. If your comp is affected by the salesperson claiming greater credit then you may need to spell it out even more. But it may also be one of those things where leadership doesn’t have any expectation or intention to recognize you beyond that if you aren’t actually the sales person. Probably need more info on whether you have the same kind of quota.
Help those reps who treat you well. Don't give time to the A***holes. They will never acknowledge your assistance.
I have had a teammate like that in the past and it was really annoying. I finally said something because I am not going to let someone keep taking credit for my work. I think there is a respectful way to tell them to stop.
Email them to death. Make note of everything you did for them. Don't get pissed off...get "even" in the most professional way. Copy your boss and the "problem reps" boss. If someone calls you on the emails, just say that you wanted everyone to have visibility on the deal. "Nothing sanitizes like sunshine."
Speak TF up!!!! Or you will get railroaded.
Call their a$$ out. If you stay quiet you’ll look up and watch them being promoted for all of your hard work.
