Everyone always said there are so many things you can do with a law degree... What are some of those things and can I still make six figures doing those things?

I've been toying with the idea of setting up a legal clinic specifically to give new lawyers experience. Would take about 10 newbies, charge 50% of market rate, let them keep 30-40% of that, and spend my days teaching and reviewing work. I love teaching how to do this job, but I hate actually doing this job.

With this setup, I'd still be making around 2.5x (maybe less, b/c efficiency issues with newbies, but even if it drops to 1x, that would be fine) what I make now, and I'd be a lot happier.

If you are able to do patent prep/pros, let me know - I'm starting to more seriously consider making this firm.

Worst advice I ever got haha… I have since left my attorney job and went into legal recruiting. I just started so can’t talk to compensation because mainly commissions but from all accounts it can be lucrative.

I practice commercial real estate transactions. Many of my clients have law degrees but left firm life to do real estate development. My best friend from law school is the CEO of an arts nonprofit and makes six figures, so that may be an area worth exploring as well.

Many of them have started their own development companies. I’m not exactly sure what goes on behind the scenes, but in general, they buy, sell, and lease existing properties, build new properties, etc. Some are getting into equity investing as well.

I'm on the same hunt. I keep seeing "compliance" as a suggestion in articles etc but when you look at the job postings it seems they want specific training/edu in the world of compliance to even be considered. 🙄

I would kill to be able to apply my investigation skills at work. I'm jealous.
