Do you refer to yourself as Ex-Meta, especially for privacy positions? 😂
What type of roles are you targeting? If your resume and profile fit, you’d be getting interviews and legit recruiters in your DMs with opportunities , figure out the disconnect because there’s a shortage of privacy pros and tons of open positions that pay well with excellent WLB.
As C1 said, I’m genuinely sorry you’re going through this and I completely know that Meta has talented privacy lawyers who were caught up in the usual corporate BS.
But I also agree that Meta, as a company (NOT THE PEOPLE), has a truly awful reputation for how they treat user privacy and personal data as a whole. While it may not be fair, I think folks will judge you for that when applying in house.
Have you considered a firm? Firms will value the skill and not care about the corporate ethos as much as other companies will. And law firms with bustling privacy practices are looking at the tech layoffs as a chance to snag some good talent. Depending on your seniority, education, and expertise, you may have better luck going that route.
This might be bad advice, but have you considered masking your former employer with something like FANG? Meta might have a black mark. I’d go work for one of your former outside counsel for a minute rather than applying at a company. Just a thought take it or leave it.
Thank you!!
Have you considered pivoting to product or commercial counsel roles? Privacy can generally translate well into those.
So How’d things work out for you OP? Did you hear back? Would love to know
