So, so different...
GDS is the team where "lower skilled" work is sent because it's cheaper than having a US resource do it. Whereas EY Advisory in India are regular consultants that work in India
All EY2 and 3 said. I've seen a couple come to the US for several months if they have structured finance skills, but again that's a very low probability
It is support for EY Americas. Some if the work will be client facing. But ultimately, they work for the US firm to increase margin on US engagements not for local ones.
This could be good as it would give your friend exposure to US business practices/client names, but the work will probably be much more boring than working to solve problems within the national India practice (depending on goals/actual engagements the India practice sells, which I can't claim to know anything about).
Also, something to consider is the way GDS is treated is definitely not the same as local professionals.
They do sometimes get to travel to the US, but it's hardly to be expected.
You never know what could happen - I met a few people who transferred from India to the US firm after being very high performers, but it's definitely not common.
Is it client facing work or internal EY
Thanks EY2. If I may ask, do EY GDS resources come to US? Or other on site locations based on the projects?
Ok thanks EY3.
Got it. Thanks everyone. He's in tech. He has one another offer so wanted some clarification.
