Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.
https://ergochair.co/collections/chairs/products/ergonomics-mesh-chair-w-adjustable-headrest-and-armrest?variant=32511617597491
My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.

Interesting. Can somebody show me this in an actual vacation policy? I was curious and dug out the vacation policy myself but that's not mentioned anywhere, unless it's in a different policy file.
Otherwise, nobody mentioned anything about ethics when we're forced to work after midnight and weekends without any extra pay. Use your judgment. If your manager is ok with you being off for the entire day, and you've worked your chargeable for the rest of the four days, I don't see anything wrong with charging less than 8 to your vacation.
EY3 - no one forces you to work weekends or until after midnight. You were hired as an exempt employee which means you are salaried and expected to do the job. This means overtime hours without extra pay. It also means that your salary is higher than people that are working in temp or hourly roles or in different industries. Why would anyone pay a consultant, lawyer or investment banker significantly more for their level than other positions if they weren't getting more production? When I graduated I started at 50k as a staff, my friends in IB made 100k. I worked 50hrs a week...they worked 100+...seems like reasonable expectation for the pay being offered. Additionally, the policy doesn't clearly state the requirement. But your comment regarding the policy stating ethics is just plain silly given that everything we do is also governed by the global code of conduct that you acknowledge and agree to at a minimum annual basis. If you are doing things that breach the code of conduct, you are subject to consequences. I get the concept of smoothing hours, but if you really aren't changing your utilization if you are "banking" PTO to use when you are on the bench. You are lowering your utilization in the short term and raising it in the long term rather than raising it in the short term and having it decline in the long term. At the end of the day, you are working the same hours. Our clients and our company expects us to work M-F at a minimum and if we aren't, we are expected to report our time to the correct non-billable code.
If your taking the entire day off then put in 8 hours
Depends on what you've charged for the rest of the week! I.e if you've charged 36 mon to thu, that would be 4 hours to vacation. Why would anyone charge 8, E1 and E2?!
A day has 8 hours we need to take account of. You take a day off, you put 8 hours to vacation. It's the ethical thing to do.
Mind blown, E3.
Hypothetical: What if I've worked 50 hours M-Th?
8
You're, not your.
Also, the minimum is 40 hours. If you want to use your vacation faster, then it's up to you.
Now I'm going to have to audit all my staff and seniors cause I'm curious to see if anyone's doing this.
And become the most hated person? What for, really?
^ so you're admitting it's a wrong thing to do
Uh, no.. for being the unreasonable person that noses around people's vacation days. I still don't see anything in the policy that supports your view, and I don't know anyone else who agrees with you.
So if I work super late mon-Thursday (totaling more than 8 extra hours than normal) to make up for the fact that I'm taking a Friday off, I still need to use a vacation day? Absolutely not.
If I work my normal hours the rest of the week and have team members cover for me on the Friday, that's different, then use 8 hours vacation. If our weekly expectations are met, it doesn't matter what days we charge the hours. Use your judgement.
Yes, you should put 6 hours worked if you worked 6 hours and supplement with 2 hours of vacation. A workday is classified as 8 hours. It's unfortunate that GT&E doesn't have error checking to see if you put in 8+ hours everyday but that'll be corrected when Mercury takes its place this year.
I just ran a report on how many people put in 0 time on Friday's and the results surprise me. I had no idea so many people did this.
:) I found out that for PWC it's ok not to charge to vacation if you've make up the hours the rest of the days. I'd say it would be one of the factors that may sway people which firm to work for one way or the other. I say this as direct feedback to a principal, and totally not intending it as a threat of any sort. Just try to think of it from our point of view, walk in our shoes.
If I were a steward of the firm, i don't think it's against the guiding principles.. nowhere does it say we have to work at least 8 hours on any given day... I would focus on quality of work and satisfaction of our colleagues, but I guess we have agreed to disagree
🙄
E3 - At EY there are no fixed hours your supposed to complete for the week and then your free to go. It all depends on your client needs. So if you take the day off you put the default 8 hours. Putting in 4 hours of vacation simply means you took half a day of vacation
