In the future, we will be excited by technology that prevents our faces from being recognized by facial recognition technology
Am I the only one that finds this technology disturbing?
What’s the end game? How far is too far?
I know technology is cool but is this something we really want?
No. Not because of a dystopian threat but that the app was built and managed by the lowest bidder.
Where did they get data for your face?
I wonder if the it’s biased towards accuracy against specificity
Seen it at IAD only. Is this for an overseas flight?
Yes it is. Which I'm hoping means the photo came from a previous passport scan and not from other places.
I’ve seen this on Delta at ATL once before
I saw it at a Delta gate in SLC
Happens all the time in Europe, it's common there
Heathrow has had retina scanning for a hot minute now - wonder how the IAD scans are impacted by things like facial hair?
Delta is going to bring this to all their airports and gates for international flights alone by end of 2019. However airlines are still on the hook to ensure passengers have their passports and visa if necessary depending on their destination, not sure which step of the process they would do this check especially if a passenger doesn’t have a bag to check. Are they still asking to have your passports out at the gate?
CBP already has your biometric information, airlines would most likely just be connecting to that system to authenticate.

Prints the form with all your personal and flight info. Takes 15-20 seconds total. The geek in me loves this, the conspiracy theorist hates it...
