I use the portal...I’ve found a lot of times their prices are better than I can find outside (particularly rental cars)
If you have a status with the airline you're booking on then you're getting way more than 1.5 cents per point when you consider you're getting elite miles and award miles from using Chase points. If you're booking a random airline, I think transfers are definitely worth more (e.g. high end Hyatt resorts, BA's 7500 points for flights under 1000 miles, United intl business class, aer lingus Boston to Dublin business class, etc.)
Transferring is usually better in my experience
I mainly use the portal, but transferring can be useful depending on where you’re transferring
Transferring is super beneficial when booking a biz or first class international ticket
I buy flights with my points
I have companion on SW, so that’s 3CPP over the phone
I transfer unless I am booking delta, Hilton, Marriott or National (Car). I usually have a ton of points with them for free redemptions.
@BCG2 - I also have companion. Can you elaborate on this?
Not much to elaborate on. SW with companion is one of the best uses of UR points. 13,333 points gets me 2 $200 tickets (one ‘paid’ with points and one free from the companion). That’s 3cpp. SW doesn’t show on the portal, but you can call Chase to book. One note: if you cancel, you don’t get UR points back. You get SW travel funds which stay in your account
Besides biz/first class or SW, does transferring for flights still make sense? I’ve always looked at united and the cpp is never higher than 1.5 so I end up booking through chase.
@AC4 Depends on airline, when and where you travel.
A4 - total crapshoot for economy. I’ve done it both ways
