Your allocation spread is way complex. You should take a look at the expense ratio of each, I’m willing to bet you are paying some pretty hefty fees. You should determine what stock/bond split you want, and then further decide what % International exposure you want from the stock portion. I would suggest to Simplify your portfolio and reduce your expense ratios
Even simpler, just invest 100% in the 2045 target fund. It’s built to automatically diversify your portfolio based on how many years you have left. Now it will be weighted heavily in equities to maximize growth in the years when you can be more risky and take the market dips, but over time it gradually invests more in bonds and less risky investments to protect your assets.
🔮
You can estimate:
1. how much income you need at retirement
2. Will you live on dividends or also deplete asset base
3. How you want your asset exposure - heavy REIT / MLP (high dividend) vs. balanced with stocks vs. all stock
4. What yield you can expect
5. How much asset value you need to generate that income
6. What growth rate you can expect on retirement funds (S&P500 8%-12% historical)
7. What funds or collection of funds can achieve that rate
8. How much you will need to contribute each year/ month
9. What risk factors to consider (US funds, international, emerging market, gold, value, growth, real estate) - they all have pros and cons
The reality is, there is no magic answer. No one has figured some secret thing out that you don’t know. And it’s important to think holistically as to why you are investing, and how you achieve that why with your selections, with risk constraints included.
Great advice. Thank you all. I definitely have some research to do
and 10% in each of the following: Pimco Total Return Fund, Vanguard Instl 500 Index Trust, Vanguard Value Index fund, Vanguard Mid Cap Index fund, Fidelity OTC Pool, Vanguard Growth Index Fund, and American New Perspective Fund. Any suggestions on of these allocations are good? Any other funds that I should invest in?
