FINALLY got an offer after 8 months, but they’re lowballing me HARD. Like, I gave them my salary range upfront, and they still came over $20K under. I need this job, but taking less makes this incredibly disappointing. Do I just take it and deal, or keep waiting and risk being broke longer?

Take the job to pay your bills. But, keep applying. If you jump ship after a few months, they did it to themselves by not paying you what you are worth.

likesmarthelpful

would that go for contract jobs as well through staffing agencies?

Make 1 attempt at getting a higher base pay / sign on bonus. Then accept whatever they come back with. Then keep applying and leave with a new job offer

I agree.

Take it for now, and keep looking.

Look you're not going to get the 20,000 more that you wanted. That's just a fact. They do want you to negotiate so they may be screwing around thinking well we will get him for $10,000 less than he was asking for. So just like some of the other said go ahead and negotiate a little bit take the freaking job and then since they pretty much are screwing you up front screw them later. Make sure you kick ass when you go to work so that they can regret when you leave. You need to keep pounding away looking for jobs but make sure you can pay your bills. It will also keep you occupied and you may have some other benefits of social interaction and other experiences even though you're working for a little bit less money. All the best you my friend! You will get through this and you will do great things in your life and your career.

like

If I were you keep the job for a while and keep applying until you landed on your desire pay. Never think the this hard to look for a job.

like

Did you end up taking the offer?

like

Do you have confidence in yourself? Are you a pro? Can you make money for your company? Have you looked hard at this company? Are they successful? Do you know how to generate business and new business? Then find out what their commission is? You are a real salesman right? If this company fits the bill jump in and get busy! If you are a fluffer better not take the job!

Do you currently have a job or not?

Take the offer but keep looking. Let them think you’re truly interested and that you really want the job and then just do the best you can but keep looking. It’s always easier to get a job when you already have one.

Some salary is bette than no salary. Take it and keep looking. It is easier to find a job while employed. At such a lowball offer, you won’t feel bad leaving.

They know what the market will bear. Perhaps they can’t afford you. Regardless you now have choices and options.

Good luck✨

I’d agree to take it if you don’t have anything lined up. But, continue to search for the right one.

Take it and keep looking!

Take it, but keep searching and applying and interviewing for better until you get it's your new employer that created this scenario not you !

If the job is acceptable for now, and you need money, I'd take it but keep looking. You can always resign. And, you don't have to list it on your resume. Keep yourself safe. I once accepted a job that was $20/hr less than what I had been making and ended up withdrawing from the position because the closer it got to the start date the more anxiety I started having. Listen to your inner gut "literally"!

Of course take it and then keep looking for something better.
If you were employed I would obviously say no, but in your case it could be another 8 months before you get another offer!

Take the job, but keep your job search active and be ready to jump. If they will not pay, especially when you have seen the same job posted for higher pay, that is on them.

What are your thoughts on pay discrepancies based on family structure? Ex. Two people do the same job but one is paid more or given a larger bonus “because they have kids and you live alone” or “because their family is struggling”. Is that an ethical factor if both employees do the same job at the same pace, quality, etc?

Fellow enterprise tech sales fish, I’m interested to hear your perspective. I’ve been in a rut lately and seriously considering leaving sales. I think it’s primarily fueled by one thing:
After a 6 mo cycle I closed a large deal (4x the average deal size) prior to receiving delayed 2022 comp plans. The deal counts as a 2022 deal. On last years comp plan it would’ve paid out at 10%. This year it pays out at a measly 4%.

How do you/have you navigated your way through and out of these situations?

I applied for a job and received an offer from my client. 15k+ bump in salary, better benefits/remote work, and responsibilities will give me exposure to all areas of the organization (start up). The problem is that they’re looking to staff me as a Senior when I’m currently a Manager at DT. They said they’re flexible on title, but curious to hear how others have navigated similar situations. My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…
