Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
I was just offered a CUNY role. The title is Higher Education Assistant. According to Glassdoor, the average annual pay for that role is $83,418. However, I was offered $62,500. I requested for the minimum annual salary to be 75k. Does anyone have experience navigating the CUNY system and their pay?

I would suggest switching companies. The best salary increases are obtained that way !
Sounds like it’s time to leave because they’ve been reducing your pay for the past 2 years given how much inflation has been. Think of it like this, if you were important to the team, they would be proactively increasing your wage to “bribe” you to stay
Oh boy this seems to a hot topic!!
I’m going thru similar sitch - my advice is ask for what you deserve - give them your reasons/proof/examples why and see what if anything they do.
In the meantime - get your stuff in order and start shopping around! The best way to get caught up to market especially if you started low and haven’t gotten bumped in a few years is to move to a new company. In some cases if you get an offer your company may counter - and then you have options!
Thanks everyone. Yeah I think it’s written on the wall what I need to do. I’m bit sad that my loyalty has been so heavily exploited by my company. There’s been some bonuses and benefits. But that’s all communal. I could have worked the same as others in my team who worked less and get the same thing. Honestly I’m fed up of settling for them. The wait is just making me more motivated to move. I guess the salary ask was a last bid to give them a chance. But I’ve done plenty of that. I’m also covering for 2 people who since left our team. With COL, working for 2 extra people and extra responsibilities myself, I can’t just accept lower than what I’m asking from them. Thanks for the advice all 😊
Will ur offers wait 1-2 weeks?
They said I won’t get an offer until next week or two. Our financial year starts October. When I asked the boss for a review not saying salary related he pushed me a week. Then when the meeting happened I asked - they said they guessed what it was. Pushed another 1-2 weeks to chat with directors (said getting availability is tricky). Feels bit suspicious though. I’m suspecting a low offer will be negotiated to me and really don’t want that. They done that last time I asked 3 years ago. Told them I wanted x number and they gave me that. Nothing since despite meeting all the goals they asked me to complete last time
update. I got the raise but it was only half of what i was looking for. This was the same number given to me 3 and a half years ago in the company with less experience and impact made. There didn’t seem to be much thought put into it despite waiting a whole month for the figure. Course i declined it 🙉 and still waiting on them to come back with another offer. i’m searching new jobs in meanwhile because this wait is off putting too
