that probably didn't come off as sympathetic as it should have. I really am sorry to hear it, but I'm trying to find the bright side here: your firm is taking cost cutting measures that are prudent and may save jobs down the line, and you can feel pretty good about your job security compared to most as a result - you're a proven revenue generator *and* you're now doing it at a discount. if and when this nightmare ends, your salary will recover, while people who didn't survive more drastic payroll cuts may not be as lucky.

sorry to hear it, but I'd rather we all be paid 20% less than 20% of us be paid 0
At my firm (AMLAW100 in the mid-west) pay cuts started at the very top. Partners deferring 20% and taking a 15% haircut. Admittedly, we haven’t reached the across the board cut phase yet but if we do it will be a lot easier to swallow knowing the partners tried to bear the brunt of this before cutting pay firm-wide
