Totally get this, rebound crashes from Concerta can hit hard. It’s not just mood, it’s like your whole nervous system slams the brakes.
What’s helped me:
🕒 A small “booster” dose (IR med) in the evening, with doc approval
🍽️ High-protein snack around 5–6pm to soften the drop.
🧘♂️ And honestly, just knowing it’s the meds, not me, has helped me communicate it better to people around me.
You’re not alone in this.
Definitely talk to your doctor about this. There are so many options that could help. For me, switching to Vyvanse was the answer. The same aspect of the chemical structure that was designed to make it harder to abuse also causes it to have a much more subtle and gradual transition both when kicking in and wearing off compared to other stimulants I tried over my lifetime. I have to take it at least 2 hours before work, because it takes that long to really start working, but I also don’t ever feel a crash or rebound at the end of the day because it wears off just as gradually.
And I would say that I also don’t have trouble falling asleep as it is wearing off (lasts around 12 hours but really peak effectiveness is the middle 8-ish hours) but I happen to work such a weird inconsistent schedule that I always have trouble with that, but it’s not a problem because of the meds.
Does your doc know? Maybe you need a medication change. I stopped taking Adderall for this reason.
