First year associate in mid size firm for my region (New England). My firm primarily focused on PI, Family law, and crim matters.

I’m patent bar eligible and am interested in trying to shift to a metro Boston firm that focuses more on IP. Should I take the bar first and then apply for job openings or start applying to IP firms and note in my cover letter that I am studying to take the patent bar?
