I see that a lot with people that move. At Mck you need to prove yourselves every day if not every study. Regardless of where you came from. It is a constant market - dont perform and the downward trajectory kicks in. Have seen Sr. Partners lag behind and be kicked out. I like it this way as it maximizes firm performance and helps it be the best. On the other hand, it is stressful for people who are not used to it/ are not good enough
It's also stressful being that high performer, always exceeding expectations, but having to wait for your turn in line even if the person in front of you is a freeloader due to a tenured system. That's been my B4 experience. The higher you go, you find survivors and not many high performers. For D, especially with new leadership that believes less in meritocracy and individual contributions, will be interesting to see how the firm evolves.
Did you move at a level below?
Much of that feeling is normal since you are indeed reestablishing your brand. Had a similar feeling when I moved to EYP and I moved from another big 4 (hence should have been an easier move, in theory) There is a tipping point though beyond which you start to belong and be more comfortable in your shoes. Not saying FAANG can't be more satisfying, but Mck is an experience you can make a lot out of
Depends - in my experiences at McK FAANG is the most desirable (and relatively easy to achieve) post-MBA exit, but for pre-MBAs it’s quite less desired (people would rather go work for startups or PE)
