When you interview you tell them exactly what your salary expectations are and don’t accept less than that. Also asking friends at other firms is the way to go
I worked with a recruiter. Recruiter didn't know my salary. First job offer that came in was only a few k more than what I was making and wasn't worth the jump. I told the recruiter this and asked them to renegotiate. First company failed to bring more so I respectfully declined and was a little annoyed I wasted my time.
Second job offer brought more $ and I was more excited for the opportunity so I took it. I'm glad things worked out the way they did
Heard the market rate from other people jumping around.
Recruiters kept reaching out to me, and I said “I will only consider a firm that’ll give me $X” and he did the legwork
