Spent 4+ years as CMO of startup company. It was an incredible learning experience but also a very difficult uphill battle trying to steer the owners and the company in the right direction. I’ve just exited the company as of 11/18. The owners expected to storm the marketplace and emerge as a number one brand at only 6 years old without putting in the work.Company had a very hard time understanding the concept of a unique value proposition. Hoping to find a new remote (full time) position ASAP

Take a bit of time, step back and see what the next move looks like. Very scared to fall into the mindset of “have to get back to work ASAP”

Applying ASAP. I don’t plan to start till later in august or September, but the whole
process takes a while so want to get moving. I can chill after I have the position in hand.
Sadly for many here on a visa it’s not even an option, thought we’ve been working here for many years
You could “fake” search but in order to get unemployment you do have to show proof of active job searching. I don’t think it hurts to start the process early, but it doesn’t have to be a full time event right off the bat.

I start out by being picky. I set salary and benefits targets. I apply aggressively, answer recruiters, go through interviews. I usually start seeing a ceiling companies are willing to give. If none of them are exceptional I decline offers. Next round I set next expectations based on the 1st round. It might be a break even scenario compared to the previous job. I’ve never gotten to the 3rd round, but it would be taking as little of a cut in pay as possible. 4th round would be taking whatever I can get if I have no income. I’d give each round about a month, while aggressively pursuing opportunities. Spend 2-3 hours a day on it. That should result in a few months off and a good next role, but fall short of running out of options.

I can tell you who not to use. Monsters resume writing service was garbage. I don’t have a recent recommendation. I’m only applying for roles I’m highly qualified, 80% match. Of those I get an offer to interview 10-20% of the time. About 50% I hear they went forward with other candidates, which leaves roughly 30% I hear nothing. It’s a numbers games. Apply for 10, expect 1 call. My resume is a little weak on education bachelors in information system - security, a few rare hard certs, about 20 years of experience, lots of top tier companies. So if you are more on the junior side you might apply for 15 to get 1 response. That’s why those profiles on those sites work hard for you. It’s generating interest. Rather than chasing it.
