Like A&M1 said, experience is highly dependent on the offices, MDs, and teams you work with. My team mostly does expert witness work around damages as well as investigations. Investigations can be interesting at times but I much prefer damages work.
I work close to 40 hours per week on average, but with major swings of ~20 hours in each direction at times. That’s resulted in 50-100% bonuses each year, increasing as I moved up. At 50-60 hours I’d guess A&M1 has consistently made over 100%
I’m in office 2-3 days a week. Some offices are much more remote friendly.
There’s a few bad apples just like anywhere else but I would say 90% of the people are fantastic and the culture is great. Friendly, good camaraderie, strong mentorship, open and transparent leadership, flat org structure with minimal hierarchy or red tape, and overall entrepreneurial/meritocratic mindset that supports exploring your interests, giving you opportunities to take on responsibilities earlier in your career & move up quicker accordingly, and building your network/client relationships even at junior levels.
Experience will vary widely based on the team you’re working on. My team mainly does solvency analyses, damages, and investigations. I enjoy the first two but don’t love investigations. Compensation is highly dependent on your MD bringing in business. There’s people that will only get their base + a small bonus and others at the same level that get base + 100% bonus. I’ve been working 50-60 hours basically year round for the last 3 years. But atleast I know that all the extra hours I’m working are directly increasing my comp. Culture will vary by office but everyone I’ve met outside my office has been extremely friendly and easy to get along with.
Sure
