It’s a pain in the ass with the Amex, but I subsidize it with all the major perks like FHR credit, IAG airline discount and time to time my purchases line up with their offers, I.e spend x get y back. Otherwise, it’s really only used when I know it makes sense. Reserve I pretty much use for flights since the travel insurance is better and with the freedom I can up my 1.5% return to 2.25% return on pay yourself back or flights etc.
Lol ok I’m doing the same with CSR/CFU and thought there must be a better way. I’m generally disappointed in AmEx rewards besides the lounge access
The only reason I’ve kept my Amex Platinum is due to the delta lounge access. I use my Reserve and Freedom for everything else
Wait but Amex Platinum gets 5x points on flights to transfer directly back to Delta. If flying Delta or one of their partner airlines it seems 5x > 3x

Why 😂

Used to before downgrading Platinum. Unless you’re booking travel through AmEx, Chase gets better points for just about everything. I use CSR for dining/travel and Freedom Unlimited for everything else, then transfer points.
If you’re committing to AmEx, use the Gold or a no fee card for most purchases. The main benefit of Platinum is the insane perks, but by no means should you be using a card that gets 1pt/$ for purchases when so many cards have higher returns.
