Develop soft skills first. Excellent communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership abilities are required for supply chain effectiveness. Develop these abilities through participating in activities such as group projects, volunteer work, and leadership roles in student groups.
The supply chain industry is always changing. Read industry magazines, attend conferences, and network with specialists in the sector to stay up to date on current trends and breakthroughs.
What magazines, conferences etc do you know of, do you find interesting and how do you stay up to date on trends?
It would be best to be very flexible and deal with constructive feedback in a positive manner. You should also have a lot of common sense and an analytical mind. Be comfortable with constantly having to solve many issues everyday and applying solutions to prevent further issues. It really shows in supply chain who are the ones that are able to critically think and those that are just doing the motions.
Certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) and Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) can provide a competitive edge when seeking employment in the supply chain industry.
Building relationships with professionals in the supply chain industry can be invaluable when it comes to finding job opportunities and gaining insights into the industry. Attend industry events, join professional organizations, and connect with professionals on LinkedIn.
The supply chain industry offers a wide range of roles and opportunities. Be open to exploring different areas within the industry and taking on new challenges. This will help you gain a well-rounded understanding of the industry and develop a diverse set of skills.
Lots of great suggestions here! For a long term career in supply chain don’t jump from role to role too quickly. Target 2 1/2 years minimum in each role whether demand planning , supply, procurement , etc. most effective people spent time in manufacturing or distribution or both.
Thick skin is correct, humility, emotional intelligence jn leadership and communication. Develop data analytics skills whether excel, power bi. Leverage lean six sigma
Continue to educate while in role with applied certifications in lean six sigma , project management , trainings in situational influence.

This is a great question. Try to stay in your current role and gain as many skills and experience as possible. Moving too much is not advisable.
