Not essential. Recommend buying a beginners set or getting a set of used clubs from somewhere like Callaway pre-owned. You’ll be much better off using some of that money to invest in lessons.
No there’s no need for that. Get decent set of clubs that feel comfortable, lots of good used deals, and just get out and play. I’d also find a coach and get some lessons. Once you’re comfortable and know you’ll stick with it, get fit for a set that matches your swing. A good fitting is a lesson too so anyone who gets paid whether you buy clubs or not is preferable IMO.
Try 2ndswing.com for a set of preowned clubs. I’m currently playing Ping G400s that I got used for $400 + $400 for the matching driver. Finally going to spring for a new set of Pings next season after 5 years of playing and hitting a 10 HCP.
