If my transition from the military taught me anything it was to not pigeonhole yourself into a specific industry or job. You may find something similar that uses your skills set but is a little different. Look at any and all management positions since you have experience in this. Plus, once you have a job it is always easier to find a job.
Your network is your best asset. It'll help you make connections, bypass HR review and go straight to hiring managers, and help you find jobs not posted. 1: Build a strong LinkedIn profile. LinkedIn Premium is free for transitioning military for one year. 2: Send connection requests to anyone with whom you served, even if you didn't interact too closely. Include generals/admirals, colonels/captains, and E8s/E9s that led your units no matter how many layers were between you and them. You'll be pleasantly surprised how many are willing to help. 3: Send connection requests to hiring managers in companies for which you're interested, even if you're only mildly interested. They can be found on the company's LinkedIn profile. 3: Once connected, send a short message to the retired military connections that detail how you may know each other (served in same unit), what type of work you're seeking, and ask if they can connect you with people who can help. 4: Send short messages to hiring managers that detail why you're interested in their company and a few top-level qualifications. 5: Spend some time every day looking for connections and reviewing LinkedIn job posts. 6: Watch the video lessons on connections, resumes, and interviews.
This is exactly how I secured multiple interviews and job offers. Good luck.
