If youâre an MBA and donât have an engineering background then the Product Manager pathway might not be the best for you at Google. Typically they want candidates with engineering backgrounds. Theyâd prefer to hire Computer Science Grads over MBAs for these roles. Although Amazon does the opposite, they like to hire MBAs.
Itâs changing at Google for more diverse academic backgrounds, but still biased to comp sci.
Also, we donât have BAs or POs here. Nearest thing is a Product Manager, but itâs different. Make sure to do the research and reference above.
Yeah, that makes sense. Youâd fit the profile then :-)
Iâd say most MBA graduates land L4/L5 non-tech roles in the US. Comp was similar to consulting, until the recent MBB raises.
For Europe L4 is more common, and comp is also competitive vs. consulting. Not investment banking, however.
Usually strategy and operations roles, especially if they have a consulting background. Iâve also seen people land sales roles (very well paid), and even product marketing roles (not as well paid). Thereâs no specific go-to role
Iâd love to know too because I have a similar background
So what do you want to do post MBA? Also I'm confused by the term "BA / product owner" as a product owner generally is an eng lead function.
Got it. There is often an MBA intern cohort tied to PM so I would keep an eye out for that.
There is also often an MBA internship tied to Strategy & Operations, which tends to be more internal consulting focused and looks at where to invest / growth opportunities and PMs often rely on these teams to validate market assumptions when building product.
Don't apply for the APM rotation, as this is focused on those with 0-3 years experience.
As for comp, the levels.fyi data is worth checking out.
