Google is on a hiring freeze. If that’s the case, then I am confused how come people on LinkedIn keeps saying they just got hurried by Google.

Disney Streaming Services I completed my interview process with DSS early last week, and was reached out by recruiter that all rounds were strong hires, and they are extending an offer. We set a time to talk on Friday about the offer. However, the announcement of targeted hiring freeze happened on Friday. I was ghosted with no call. What should I expect now? Would I still have chance to be offered?

I recently interviewed with MITRE for a systems engineering role to make the move from Leidos where I feel underpaid for the work I do and for my experience ($85K). I have 4 YOE, a STEM degree, and soon will have a Masters Degree. I’m looking to make around $120K in the new role at Mitre. Does anyone have any insight into comp there? This would be in the DC metro area. Does $120K seem reasonable or am I dreaming?

Hard to say without context but hiring freeze can also mean net new positions, as in backfilling roles continues but the budgeted headcount is not going to change/increase.
This is probably exactly what’s happening. So still apply!
It’s not just Biden economics. There’s three main factors 1) commodity shocks (eg oil and gas banning Russia drives up prices on remaining supply 2) supply chain shocks globally that will take time to recover 3) stimulus money that Fed pumped into the economy (1st stimulus started with Trump btw), increasing money supply to create inflation. The US isn’t the only country facing tough economic times, other countries around the globe are too. In fact, we probably have it better. But this environment tech markets will continue to be depressed as investors rotate to other industries and asset classes that are more cash rich. This decreasing valuation puts pressure on execs to improve bottom line through hiring freeze and laying off employees. Hope this helps.
Not sure about Google specifically, but a hiring freeze often doesn't mean that they are not going to fill essential roles they find they need or fill roles for people that leave. Just new / expansion roles are frozen probably.
