Google is on a hiring freeze. If that’s the case, then I am confused how come people on LinkedIn keeps saying they just got hurried by Google.

Hard to say without context but hiring freeze can also mean net new positions, as in backfilling roles continues but the budgeted headcount is not going to change/increase.
This is probably exactly what’s happening. So still apply!
It’s not just Biden economics. There’s three main factors 1) commodity shocks (eg oil and gas banning Russia drives up prices on remaining supply 2) supply chain shocks globally that will take time to recover 3) stimulus money that Fed pumped into the economy (1st stimulus started with Trump btw), increasing money supply to create inflation. The US isn’t the only country facing tough economic times, other countries around the globe are too. In fact, we probably have it better. But this environment tech markets will continue to be depressed as investors rotate to other industries and asset classes that are more cash rich. This decreasing valuation puts pressure on execs to improve bottom line through hiring freeze and laying off employees. Hope this helps.

Have not seen anything about a hiring freeze. Definitely slowing down but new people being onboarded daily.
Im a TVC at google and will keep applying for FTE because I only can apply 3 jobs in a month anyway
It's BS, no need to discuss, next question.
Haha no worries. Don't listen to people on the Internet and do your own thing. 🤙
Unless your application was chosen and a recruiter reaches out to you to stop your interviewing process because of the "hiring freeze", you should continue to apply.
I just got my offer from Google so I would think overall there isn't a hiring freeze. There are tightening of budgets so orgs need to be more stringent in how many open positions they need but that's not a freeze; it's not letting hiring go rampant.
Hi I recently had a google recruiter reach out to me for a position. So I guess they don’t have a hiring freeze.
Turns out they did have a slow down and freeze but don’t want to call it that. The recruiter officially let me know they’d freeze for 3 weeks and then re-assess priority roles.
I wanted to apply to a Google position but have been told that it's.much better to get a referral than to apply directly on through the Google careers website, is this true ? And if so, does anyone want to refer me? 🙏
@bah, I think a lot of people are missing a crucial point here. Here's the deal, in today's day and age, most applications aren't reviewed by a human being. You can imagine the number of applications that a company the size of Google receives every day, and you would understand that it's completely impractical for them to have human eyes reviewing every single one of them. So how do they do it? They employ software to filter the chaff from the wheat. It's not perfect, but it works for them (not for you so much, unfortunately). So you can imagine that a majority of the applicants get rejected outright by the software.
So what is the way to bypass that software and force a human to review your application? Yupp, you guessed it, Referral! Now it may be true that a majority of hiring happens through direct applications, but the total number of direct applications is way way higher than referral applications. So it's not unreasonable that that's the case. But in general, your chances of getting a call from the recruiter are going to be much higher if you use the referral route.
One of my best friends is in talent acquisition at Google … and they’re still hiring for positions, so keep interviewing! If you get an offer, wait until you get to the end, with the background check completed and verified and then give notice.
Yeah I got to receiving and offer. The day I was supposed to get it I got a freeze notice instead.
There’s some truth to this post. I’m currently trying to move internally at Google and HMs are telling me all the roles in their area are frozen. Sucks!
we are tightening/cutting open positions but we are not stopping completely.
There is an external hiring freeze at Dell. There are job posting probably because internal people are still being promoted and it’s a formality to post the lisiting.
I’m currently interviewing for Google so I think this isn’t true 🤔
From the letter that went out-the freeze did not include engineering roles.
Hmm, reality hurts when you have an incompetent economy…
Tons of hiring still happening as it was all pre budgeted for the year (to my understanding). Also onboarding/start dates can be set out pretty far so a lot you are seeing on LinkedIn now are probably interviewees from Q2 and possibly Q1.
More often than not a hiring freeze means not creating new positions. With a company as large as Google, there will always be turnover so they will look to fill at least some of those positions. So you'll still see people being hired, just not as much as before.
I just had Roblox draw out on me because they’re going into a hiring freeze after I had gone through their whole interview process. So I’m feeling the frustration too.
in which team did this happen ?
Haven’t heard about a hiring freeze. I’m in the middle of salary. Negotiations to go back there.
Me too, but the salary negotiation is taking a long time... There's definitely some sort of slowdown or blockage going on.
There is an hiring freeze but still hiring on very critical roles.
