Tell them to F off. Google loves those who play hard to get
Be prepared with case studies about how your engagement experience can translate to Google / whatever role they reached out to you.
I had a phone screen with a Biz Ops recruiter last year, but I ultimately declined and attempted to pivot to another more strategic role with a different team / recruiter. I never heard back from that group, but I wouldn’t change anything. I wouldn’t have moved to SF for that ops role even for Google.
For what role ? Screen is kinda straight forward. Maybe a few role specific screener sorta questions. I got past that am going through the process now
Business Strategy. It sounds like an internal consulting/project management role
My understanding of the groups is that there are/is
1. Vertically aligned Operations and Strategy teams within divisions (couple hundred across google)
2. A central BizOps team that does strategy across alphabet. (~60 people based on what the internet says)
I think (1) tends to be more focused on specific products in the market and improving operations, pricing, etc while (2) Is the equivalent of an internal McKinsey that does strategy for google as a firm.
I’d have to look up the specific group names. I thought it was a Financial Ops Manager role under the Biz Ops group. I was looking to pivot to what sounds like what the OP is looking at (Business Strategy / internal consulting)
Just started at Google! Advice: be chill, relax and let your personality (and smarts) show.
C1 is right
Why would you not?
@M1 isn’t their BizOps team the most strategic team that they have
@OP: Which role/division? Went through the process last year so I’ll comment if relevant.
BizOps is a little different than Global Business Strategy (GBS).
@C2 which role did you roll into?
@C1 & @C2, would you be able to share a burner? I’d love to discuss with you. This is the first opportunity I’ve been excited about in a while
Reviving this with another role if anyone has any insight. It is a new role according to my recruiter. Have official first round Hangouts interview in 2 weeks. Product Strategist, technically within Product Operations. Description makes it sound strategic, however. Thoughts?
