Got an invite from Amex to upgrade my gold to a platinum card. The benefits seem solid but I already have CSR. Thoughts?

CSR alone is good enough. Also, they send invites to everyone

I’m an AMEX fan. I chose Gold Premier Rewards originally, and “upgraded” to Platinum when my travel increased. To me, it doesn’t make sense to have both AMEX Platinum and CSR as they are basically the same. I would argue that it isn’t worth having Gold and CSR as well. Too much duplicity and overlap for the cost. I use my AMEX Plat to consolidate all spend less rent, and have a basic bank Visa that I link to checking as a backup line of credit. Keeping it simple. Some folks enjoy the points game, but it’s more work that it’s worth for me. My suggestion is to choose Plat or CSR.

Never upgrade. Always get the new card with the signup bonus or else you’re leaving free money at the door.

I have both (CSR for personal and Amex Plat for corp card) and agree that both is overkill. I prefer CSR - earning bonuses are better, and you get 1.5c/pt when using points to book travel (Amex is 1c/pt).

worth it if you get targeted for 100k signup bonus

I have both and get good value from both. Depends on your situation. There is quite a lot of overlap between the cards. If I only had to pick one, it would be the CSR. If the following is of value to you, the platinum AmEx may be useful: - Centurion lounge access - Delta lounge access (when flying delta) - Fine hotels & resorts program (free breakfast for two, free wifi, misc. perks) - Hilton gold and SPG gold status - Boingo wifi - $200/yr Uber credits Most of the other benefits are offered by the CSR, so only consider the AmEx if the ones above are useful to you.

Currently mid twenties, and trying to take financing more seriously and would really appreciate some insight on how to allocate my income into savings! Make about roughly 70k a year (post-tax, no pre-tax contributions). I spent about $3,350 a month (~40k a year on rent, car loan, bills etc), so I have about roughly 30k to save annually. Obviously putting 6k into roth ira, and I need help with insight on how to allocate he remaining 24k between Roth 401k, emergency fund, personal saving, etc.

My salary is 92,000 paid bi-weekly, and paycheck deductions amount to 31.7%. 6% is 401k and about 1.4% is medical/dental/vision leaving 24.3% tax rate between state (NJ) and federal. Does this sound right or too high? I don’t claim any exemptions on my w4

I work at a boutique that is not very well known, I went on sick leave for personal reasons, which they have been very supportive of. Help! Just learned that my parents (54 and 56) only have ~100k in their retirement account. Their house is currently worth ~800k with ~450k left to pay on the mortgage. Their income is ~200k combined. They insist that they’ll have enough to retire on with social security and after selling the house. However, I have a hard time believing this since the max monthly social security payout is ~3k per person which doesn’t even get close to the 70-80% replacement ratio. How screwed are they really?

I feel totally blindsided by the interview I just had. I talked informally with Partner 1 before the interview and was told the position would be in one of the firm’s satellite offices. Then, during an interview with Partner 1 and Partner 2, Partner 2 mentioned that I’d have to move to the state where the firm is headquartered because he believes face-time is really important for training/mentoring. I have no plans to move and really hope this wasn’t all a huge waste of time.
