Got laid off from industry after being blamed for my bosses' incorrect approvals of tax payments. After only taking 2 days of PTO this year, answering seniors' calls after hours, and showing up for an emergency on PTO. Didn't bleach my hair to look "proper" too.

Yeah, I'm a pushover and trying to stop. But simultaneously, as-am folks, tips on making sure I avoid being the "office doormat" next time?

Set boundaries and stick to them from the very beginning. Stay busy during business hours, then evenings and weekends, and on PTO, don’t check emails or accept meetings.

Agreed. My team knows that I do not work between 5pm-8pm because I'm with my child. I also never put Teams or work email on my phone.

Boundaries are so important! And you need to set them from the very beginning. Absolutely no response over weekends or late at night. If they berate you for it, then leave for a better job.

When I left public accounting I got a 30K bump and never have to deal with overtime, weekend work, or late nights.

Hi everyone, my sister was fired from her job because her exemption from the vaccine got rejected. She has Director of Nursing experience as well as experience with case management and utilization review. Anyone know of any startups or tech companies that are remote and wouldn’t require a vaccination that are hiring for experienced nurses? Really appreciate the help! Any leads are welcome!

Tax Senior here. I’m well liked around the office, I put in the hours and work hard, I haven’t had any dumpster fire projects, but I am a mediocre performer compared to my peers (not as strong project management, communication, not as confident). I just got told they’re firing me. Should I expect severance? Have other people been fired for similar? What did you do with your career?

I am seeking new employment, I was recently laid off due to lack of work. I would very much appreciate any leads. I have a Bs in Construction Management and over 15 years experience with Revit and AutoCAD and 7 years of plumbing design. I have solid references and impeccable work ethic. I truly enjoy what I do. Working remotely the last three years has become a way of my life and supports our current situation well, therefore I am seeking a similar role but will consider other opportunities.

I have an offer for a company abroad. Originally they wanted me to fly out and start the day after Thanksgiving (not celebrated in their country), but because of the holidays I suggested starting in either December or January with the ability to take some holiday days in December to fly back home for Christmas. They then proposed starting out remotely “as soon as possible” in the US as a contractor and then moving abroad to start full time abroad. (Cont)

Had a fight with my MD or let's say more like argument. After that the next 2 months was endless nitpicking and pulling me for mistakes that aren't really in my control.

Post 3 months, I apply for a transfer. Transfer process delayed for some process reasons
No negatives/issues in my f22 feedback. Utilization above target. Way Above average
Recently fired without reason
Who should I escalate to?

Anyone have any idea when the hiring freeze might end within AWS ProServ? I’m currently at Amazon and have a TS clearance, PMP & CSM. I come from a Big4 consulting firm with a background in Enterprise Performance. I’ll be honest and say I’m not feeling very safe in my current role with the ongoing layoffs. Instead of leaving, I’d love to go back to my “consulting roots” and join the ProServ team. I’m taking my AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam next weekend. Hoping this freeze is lifted soon.

Are you spending time with family this month or next? My parents are still really worried about Covid since I work in the hospital so it looks like I may be spending the holiday season alone. So someone I know asked HR about a boot policy. When he found out that there wasn’t one, but his boss said there was (who gave the guys $ for boots and the claimed it on his expense reimbursements as something else) the boss got mad at him for askingHR (and in trouble for the expense reimbursements) and then 2 days later laid off my friend. There appears to be no notice of bad performance and this person always was the first person on the job site ready to work. Thoughts?
