Don’t respond to client directly. Let manager / partner respond. They are copied, you don’t need to feel bad about not responding. That’s not your job.
Agreed. You responding might actually do damage. Let your boss figure out how to spin it since they're the ones that'll know why you were brought on in the first place.
If you haven’t already, you need to sit down with the mgr/partner and clearly lay out your roles. If they have and you are unsure, ask for clarification. With that said, it’s not your job to justify your activity on the project. Head down and let those above you slug it out.
It's addressed at you in a technical sense, but it's really a question for the team, which means it's 100% partner/SM responsibility to respond to this. It's their fire to fight, not yours. There will probably be roll-down repercussions that will raise expectations when you start engaging on real work, but that's something for later.
is unclear, and I've mostly just been going through prior documentation and trying to understand the project so I can best find a place to support.
Just got an email from the client (copying in partner and manager) basically going "who the hell are you and why am I paying for you, no one even told me youd be joining".
How do you navigate replying to the clients *super* valid complaint about your project team without throwing your colleagues under the bus?
Is your coach aware? If they are not, the first thing is to engage your coach and tell them about this situation and work on a plan. Next get time ASAP on the partner and manager’s calendar with your coach.
Thx for the consensus folks
