Sounds like you’re in a rough spot. So as to the unscheduled inspections. That’s illegal in most if not all states. 24-48 hours notice is usually a legal standard. As for the employer interaction, sounds like a toxic work environment anyway.
This emergency puts your employer in a difficult situation and leaves other employees to cover for you. I understand him being angry, but yelling at you is not the correct way to handle this. If you quit, you won’t get unemployment, so the best thing to do is hold onto that job until you can find ano. You already know how he handles situations, make it your priority to move on to ano job.
As someone who quits every time someone yells at me, I agree with this person. Don't let their behavior determine your livelihood, and at least ask them if they intended to fire you or just give you the day off. If they fired you, immediately apply for unemployment and find something more fulfilling.
Hey, it's quite simple, show them that you don't need them by getting a different server job, this is the game owners / corporate want to play then we can play it more aggressively by quitting!!
Plus this guy has connections with the City of Chicago... He already gets away with stuff having to do with health inspections at the restaurant and such... It's a worrisome situation to say the least. I feel like I'm on a sinking ship I cannot get off until I find another paddle.
Your employer punishing you and making you miss an extra days pay is, in my opinion, juvenile. Be sure to keep a detailed record of these occurrences. I sense this is not the first time they have done this.
I’d get the unemployment and find a new job
HR to document then eeoc
How many other times have you missed work due to a last minute emergency? You had people in your house, why weren't they dealing with the inspection? As far as ownership telling you to not come in tomorrow? Argue with that, and you'll be looking for a new job.
