Received an offer as Engagement Director from Salesforce (CSG, pre sales, L9). Great benefits package, 40% increase in total comp and better WLB.
I do love the people in my practice and current client, but career trajectory has stalled after taking parental leave earlier this year and (yet another) change in leadership.
Realistically, making to Director is 2-3 years away and will require sacrificing time with my family that I am not prepared to give up.
Should I stay or should I go?

There are classes that you start on Mon and take the exam on that same Fri. I would spend more time on it on weekends because those stupid process names/inputs/outputs take a while to memorize. But real question is why are you wasting time with PMP.
Yes everything in PMBOK, but spend 50 dollars to buy a book that will make it interesting to read, quicker to get through, and is more exam oriented
OP check out the book by Rita Mulcahy. It's written well. Agree with others who say PMBOK is garbage. It's like reading a maintenance manual for a 737.
By 100% of your time I assume you mean study for a day and take the test the next day. The PMP is a joke
Letting mine expire but it was an easy $1k bonus
Shouldn't take u more than a week without being on a project to read PMBOK. Believe me though, its probably the most boring text u will ever read.
Can anyone suggest study materials or courses for the test?
You don't need anything other than PMBOK. I also ended up wasting a lot of time trying to read 5 different books. In the end, realized everything is in PMBOK.
You mean the Head First PMP or something else? I actually bought it but actually didn't find it interesting and engaging enough.
I'd like to get mine this year for the $1k bonus and to add some more damn initials after my name. 🙄
You guys get bonus for PMP? I wish we got it too at D!
Any PwC folks know if we get a similar bonus?
^ u joking? They won’t even pay for it! My partner says PM is not a skill, it’s a hygiene factor.
Manager 1, we do get the bonus at D for it. At least in Canada. May depend on your team
D1, never heard about that here in US tech consulting.
Doesn't seem like there are many benefits to PMP. Can anyone say anything good about it?
@KPMG1 We need a certification to get manager promotion, and I heard this is the easiest one.
@M1 We get a $3k bonus sans prep material we purchase. We also need 35 contact hrs to qualify for the exam, which I plan to finish within an upcoming week I’m on the bench. Sounds like a week is enough prepping, so thanks everyone for responding!
@M2 Which book do you recommend?
In advisory, we got $3k pretax bonuses for passing the PIMP (if it was our first exam that we passed).
@KMPG1 Thank you!!
@D2 The bonus is applicable to any certification under Deloitte’s criteria
Manager 1, it’s under policy 168 when I search designation bonus on MyDeloitte. Eligible for tech consulting but may have to show how it aligns to career path.
Also 100% agree with Rita’s book. Way more helpful and easier to read than PMBOK. PMP is 100% based on PMBOK but there’s a lot of tips and context Rita’s book gives to give you a leg up.
