Hi Everyone, I am trying to apply for a Technical Support role at Dropbox I’m entering all the required fields but there seems to be an issue, when I hit submit after filling the form, it doesn’t submit and throws error ‘Looks like you left this blank! Please fill out this required field’ when all the fields are entered already (I have checked so many times, and filled the form from scratch several times too). Anyone from Dropbox who can put me in touch with HR or suggest what I should do next?
I recently interviewed for L7 EM at Google and had 4 great interviews and one not so great system design. I submitted external referrals all of which gave great feedback. The recruiter said the next step is team match/interviews and then the HC. Anyone in a similar situation? What was the result? Google

Don't underestimate communication as a skill. Even as an IC, as you grow into more senior roles a lot of your impact will come from collaborations and guiding others. That requires a lot of softer skills on top of your technical skills. Your technical skills will always be the foundation, but talking, in a clear and easily understandable way, will become a bigger and bigger part.
If you can't describe what you did, how is one to assess you impact? And honestly "hard work" isn't as important as results. Did you accomplish the mission? I really don't care how hard you worked doing it, if it isn't complete...
I've definitely noticed this, especially in management. A lot of managers seem to prioritize planning, creating meetings, running meetings about meetings… I never actually see them do anything or produce anything. Just talk.
Learning how to “manage up” and take credit for your work is never a bad skill to learn.
If you’re in a role where talking doesn;t help get things done, I imagine that you are an individual contributor and someone else is doing things like aligning strategy, objectives and tactics, obtaining sponsorship, handling change management. Because a lot of your “doing” is not going to get traction and achieve outcomes that matter without that type of talk. Broadening your skills set in those area may make you a more versatile and valuable consultant, while also improving your ability to explain the value you are contributing as an individual.
Sounds like you are part of an organization that has a terrible culture. Either work to change that culture or find a new organization. If you are as good as you believe yourself to be, a move to a better company should be easy.
"Great workers get promoted over wind bags" should be a core value.

I see this everywhere! Not everyone is like this but there’s always that person where the you know all they are good at is talking.
YES! I just said this to one of my coworkers. They seem to promote the people who always look busy but aren't necessarily busy. I do not get it at all.

Tale as old as time...
I worked with a coworker at 2 jobs and he was a smooth talker and did little. Everyone liked him and he made them feel good. You have to have the knack or people see thru you.
