Has anyone here switched into a new industry mid-career? 7–8 YOE in hardware/consumer electronics and hoping to move into software/AI, or into a more specialized marketing-counsel role. I’ve negotiated SaaS & AI contracts (buyer side), earned my CIPP/US, and currently support our marketing team. But I don’t have hands-on experience managing a trademark portfolio or directly overseeing privacy.
Would appreciate any advice on making this transition or gaps to focus on closing.

your role is alot more stable, plus you can always hop on AI deals at your company. most AI laws and ai related issues are mostly data privacy and IP issues as AI runs on data.

run them thru the list of ai issues you can advise on: training data restrictions, data ownership , AI ip indemnities, ai testing (for bias/hallucinations) etc

Totally disinterested in tax, have 2.5 years experience and masters in accounting. Banking and finance jobs for about 3 years before I got into accounting. I’ve worked in sales for 12 years (8 years retail sales and management, 4 years inside tech sales and management). I’m feeling the burn and looking for something else in the tech field. I’m making $140k. I have a college degree but no marketing, engineering, or product experience. What other departments/jobs could I jump to and still keep close to my OTE? I’m pretty good at Salesforce and have thought about a SFDC admin type role, but that’s all I’ve thought of so far.

Hi peeps!
Got two offers on the table, who love to hear your advice!

- Finance Business Partner for a late stage (Series D/valuation 3B) startup tech company

- Corp Dev analyst role for a listed niche gambling company

The tech job pays 15k more, but from what I can see will be a cluster and super long hours (has EU stakeholders). Maybe a pipe dream, but I want to have a "somewhat" decent wlb while still growing my career toward strategy and finance.

Thoughts on which one is better?

Is now a good or bad time to move? I’m a financial analyst with 5 YOE (3 in manufacturing, 2 in Saas). I’ve been asking for promotion for almost a year now in my current company. Finally, my new manager and all the leaders on the team are supportive of my promotion. However, he said due to budget issue, my promotion probably won’t go thru during this cycle (August), but they will make sure it go thru in Feb ’23. If I get offered SFA role outside, should I consider? Or stay?

For those working in house, how much “from scratch” document drafting are you doing vs. reviewing and revising “outside documents”. Or are you getting outside counsel to do it?

I am expecting an offer from a firm doing business law work but think this might be an opportunity to go to my current employer and ask for a significant raise, with new offer in hand. Considering joining a small 50-person company as the only attorney (prior attorney is retiring). (I am currently in-house at a F50). For others who have done the same path, what surprises did you have when moving from a large company to a small one?

For example, it sounds like I should not expect a document management system, based on a prior post in this bowl. I’m guessing expenses like state bar fees and cell phone are not reimbursed.
